MORNING AFTER A BAD WEATHER NIGHT

Thankfully last night's impending bad weather didn't occur in our neighborhood, but a few miles directly north of my house, there were several homes severely damaged by high winds (possibly tornado). My son's girlfriend knows one family that had damage to their home. I had prepared my closet to take cover in before attiring for bed. The TV weathermen warned us all evening long of the tornadoes spotted in the State of Oklahoma. This time of year we all need to take special heed to the weathermen's warnings.

This morning started out to be a dreary day, windy and cloudy with a few sprinkles of rain, but as the day progressed, it turned out to be warm, cloudless, and sunny.

I have e-mailed, instant messaged and talked on telephone to friends today. My friend, Lorene, and I went to Remington Park Casino to claim her birthday gift. I played the slots with money given to me by the casino and won and Lorene also won. We knew when to leave -- money in our pockets rather than stay and loose it all.

I thank the Lord that there were no injuries in last night's storm.

FUN DAY

I have had such an enjoyable day. Heard from family and friends.

I took my friend's birthday gift to her this morning. She and her sons had gone out to dinner, so I left the package. She called when she returned from her birthday dinner and thanked me for the gift and asked me to go to the mall and walk with her. I had to decline as I was just stepping out of the shower when she called.

Later I did go walk and when my walk was completed, I stopped by my birthday friend's house and chatted with her while she made blueberry muffins. I left before the muffins were finished baking and before long I saw her drive up with some hot muffins for me. How nice is she!!!!She is a dear friend and I have spent a lot of enjoyable time with her, walking, shopping, eating out, and going to casinos. We decided to go to Arcadia to the Pops Restaurant. She had never been there. We had refreshments and then drove on to the Round Barn.

I think she had a very enjoyable day and so did I.

SATURDAY

I have very little to write about today. It has been a cloudy, chilly, and dreary day.

My son and his girlfriend came and mowed the weeds down in my yard. Where do all the weeds come from year after year? I do hate to see all the yard work begin, but I guess it is a necessary evil of Springtime.

I shopped today for a gift for my girlfriend's birthday that is tomorrow, but in the end, I purchased a gift card for her. We are all at that point in life where we have what we want or need, so it is hard to know what to buy for someone else. I do know she likes the store that I bought the gift card in and she can find many things to pick from. We have been window shopping and we have looked at shoes, purses, and pant tops that we both liked.

Tomorrow is a day of rest and we should all honor that day and only do what is absolutely necessary. I plan to do nothing!!!

VERY IMPORTANT DATE TO ME

Fifteen years ago today (3/28/93) my beautiful granddaughter was born. She was named Rayna Monet and she has brought us so much joy (most of the time). It was a beautiful day and her brother, Ryan, had a soccer game to play that day. We were all at the hospital awaiting the baby's birth when he had to leave for his game. When he returned from playing soccer, the baby still wasn't here. It was like she was waiting to enter the world when her big brother was there. Big brother couldn't be here today to celebrate her birthday but both her mom and I took her to the Olive Gardens Restaurant to celebrate (restaurant of her choice).

The rest of day has been quite the norm for me. Walked in neighborhood this morning even though it was only 42 degrees. Walked in mall this afternoon with Lorene. We then went to Braum's again like we did yesterday.

Thank you God for giving us a healthy baby girl on this date fifteen years ago.

DAY BEFORE FRIDAY

This has been a busy day for me just doing what is necessary to maintain a home.

I raked prickly balls that had fallen from my neighbor's sweetgum tree on to my property. They are the messiest tree and we had planted one, but after becoming a widow, I decided to eliminate anything that wasn't necessary to maintain. The first thing I did was to have that sweetgum tree removed.

The air conditioning company came and serviced my air conditioner. Everything is ready for the hot summer months. Today it has been warm enough to switch on the a/c, but I will hold off for a few more days.

I uncovered my faucets and dragged the garden hose around to the front and hooked it up so I can start watering my flowers. While I was watering the flower bed I sprayed the front windows and shutters. They were covered in Oklahoma red dirt and sand.

I picked up my finished income taxes from my CPA and, as usual, I have to pay additional taxes. I have to pay additional estimated taxes also. I have a few days until April 15th to fret over paying them. My late husband always handled the taxes so this has been a learning experience for me.

Of course the day wouldn't be complete without my daily walks. Walked in neighborhood and also in the mall.

Today I received very interesting e-mails from my son's girlfriend, Kelly. She is very thoughtful and considerate of me.

WEDNESDAY - HUMP DAY

I always feel the week is just about over on Wednesday then I start planning what I can do the next week.

Nothing to really enter for today. I did walk 3 l/4 miles with friends and then met at Braum's for a limeade and yogurt.

I talked to both my sons, one here in Oklahoma City, and the other in Santa Fe, NM. I also instant messaged with my sister in TX.

It has been short-sleeve weather today, but it has been cloudy most of the day. Neighbors have been out working on their yards and I went to Ace today and bought lawnmower supplies. My yard needs a lot of attention. I have a corner lot and have more lawn to attend to than most of my neighbors.

My son worked on setting up my Blog until quite late last night. We are trying to get it more readable. I need pictures but those will come in the future.

TUESDAY PLANS CHANGED

Today was to be a fun day with a lot of different activities. But all plans are susceptible to change and this was one of those days. I am thinking of volunteering at the Oklahoma 45th Infantry Division Museum and was to meet there at 9:30 for a tour and to learn the duties of a volunteer. Art, my friend's boyfriend, was to introduce me and take me around, but he called at 6:30 am and was ill with whatever is going around. We had all planned after visiting the museum to go to the Newcastle Casino for a while and then go out to lunch. None of these plans came to fruition. Oh well, there will be another day.

I had a fun time walking at the mall today. Three of my friends were there and more time was spent gabbing and window shopping than walking.

Lorene lost her keys at the neighborhood park and looked with another neighbor a hour and a half before I found out that she had lost her keys. I said I would go to the park and look for them and I walked right to them. Rod, our postal carrier, was also going to look for them but I found them just as he walked up. He told Lorene and me all about his trip to Wendover, NV to the casinos. He thinks all my girlfriends should get together and go to Wendover for a fun, inexpensive time. Hopefully, we can do just that sometime.

Another beautiful day. I guess I can expect more of the same now that Spring is here.

MONDAY AFTER EASTER

It is always hard to get back into the routine after a weekend, especially a holiday like Easter.

I have had a laid back, relaxing day. Walked with Sandy in the neighborhood this morning and walked with Lorene at the North Park Mall this afternoon.

I have had numerous phones calls from friends today and they are all having the same type of day as I.

I received an interesting e-mail from Tom in Trenton, NJ thanking me for visiting his website. He is an archivist in Trenton, very interesting website. I plan to visit his website again and again. You, too, might like his website. www.glover320blogspot.com

As the day is ending, I again am thankful for all my family and friends.

EASTER - RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

We should all stop and think what this day means to all Christians. We think of dyed eggs, chocolate bunnies and egg hunts, but shouldn't we really be thinking of the true meaning. HE HAS RISEN!!!!

I have enjoyed the day. My son, his girlfriend, and I had dinner at a great Mexican Restaurant named Poblano's, located at NW122nd and May. The food was outstanding and our waiter, Edwardo, was extremely friendly and efficient.

I have had many e-mails today from friends and family wishing me a Happy Easter and to everyone that will read this Blog I want to wish them a Happy Easter.

We won't in our lifetime see another Easter this early in the year. It has been rather cool but a bright and sunny day.

I have so many things to be thankful for, especially my family and friends. Without all of them it would certainly be a lonely existence.

SATURDAY BEFORE EASTER

Today has been very enjoyable. Conversed with friends and relatives via e-mails and instant messaging.

My best friend, Geneva, returned yesterday from a Spring Break trip to New York City. She and her daughter, Susie, had a marvelous time while there. They went to the Broadway show, Jersey Boys, and Geneva said the music was very nostalgic. She said she thought I would have enjoyed the show also. Geneva brought back to me a beautiful gold chain necklace and a NYC souvenir spoon for my spoon collection. Someday maybe I will visit NYC. Geneva invited me for lunch and I thoroughly enjoyed hearing all about her trip.

After leaving Geneva's condo I went to the mall and walked. It is very invigorating and I saw a friend, Lucille, there and we walked together. It isn't as boring with a fellow walker.

I came home from walking at the mall and a neighbor lady and good friend, Lorene, and I walked her dog in our neighborhood. The dog tired out before we did, so we took the dog home and continued on our walk. I enjoy living in my neighborhood very much and in September, it will be 40 years ago that we purchased our home and moved in.

I have enjoyed being outdoors on this Spring day.

ROSE STATE TRAIN SHOW

On March 15th I set-up at the Rose State Model Railroad Meet. I have Santa Fe Railroad memorabilia that my late husband collected for many years. I have been attending several train shows here in Oklahoma and always have such fun. I have met so many interesting men who belong to the Comrail (HO) Club. They have always been so helpful in unloading and loading my car the day of the show.

March 16th I went to the Crossroad's Mall to see the Oklahoma N-Rail Model Train Club's layout that is open to the public to view. If at all possible, you should visit them on Saturdays and Sundays. A member of the club is there to explain and show you the layout and the club loves to have visitors.

The next train show I might set-up at is in Stillwater, OK in June. It is at the Payne County Fairgrounds on the east side of Stillwater.

A DAY IN MY LIFE

March 21

I went for my daily two mile walk at North Park Mall, all upscale shops. I always meet and talk to very interesting walkers. Usually I start the day off walking in my own neighborhood with a lady friend. We walk 1 1/4 miles daily, weather permitting.

Had a lot of errands to run like I always do on Friday, grocery store, bank, gasoline, etc.

My grandson called from Sterling, KS where he is on a soccer scholarship. He just returned today from a cruise to Cozumel, Mexico. Spring Break is just about over for him, but he says the cruise was fantastic. He is a soccer coach for an under eleven team and his team plays their first game this weekend.

I also talked to my almost 15 year old granddaughter. She is adorable and works for a Vet caring for the animals. She and her family have 4 dogs of their own. She is also on Spring Break but has spent most of her days at the hospital visiting her other grandmother.

I went to Johnnie's for my dinner tonight. It was delicious, as usual.

When I was in Wal Mart today, I saw an old friend whom I hadn 't seen for many years. It was so good to see Glen and he promises he will call me in the future.

STILLWATER TRAIN SHOW

My granddaughter and me at the train show in Stillwater OK in June 2007.
